About the Our Lady of Guadalupe Novena
In December 1531, the Virgin Mary appeared four times to a humble indigenous Mexican man named Juan Diego on the hill of Tepeyac, near what is now Mexico City. She asked that a church be built there in her honour. When the bishop demanded a sign, Our Lady told Juan Diego to gather roses — miraculously blooming in the middle of winter — in his tilma (cloak).
When Juan Diego opened his cloak before the bishop, the roses fell out, and there on the tilma was a miraculous image of Our Lady. The image has never been explained by science. Microscopic examination has revealed figures reflected in Our Lady's eyes. The tilma has survived for nearly 500 years without any protective coating, and its fabric has not deteriorated.
The apparition led to the mass conversion of millions of indigenous people to Christianity — over nine million conversions in the decade following the apparition. Our Lady of Guadalupe is now the most visited Catholic shrine in the world, with over 20 million pilgrims annually.
She is the Patroness of the Americas and Patroness of the Unborn.

Our Lady of Guadalupe, Mystical Rose, make intercession for Holy Church, protect the Sovereign Pontiff, help all those who invoke thee in their necessities, and since thou art the ever Virgin Mary and Mother of the true God, obtain for us from thy most holy Son the grace of keeping our faith, sweet hope in the midst of the bitterness of life, burning charity and the precious gift of final perseverance.
