About the Mary, Mother of God Novena
Mary, Mother of God (in Greek, Theotokos, “God-bearer”) is the title affirmed by the Council of Ephesus in 431. It teaches that Mary’s Son is truly God, and so Mary is truly the mother of God made man.
The Church celebrates the Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God on January 1, the octave day of Christmas. It is also the World Day of Peace, and in many countries a holy day of obligation.
Praying this novena from December 23 carries you through Christmas and into the new year with Mary, who “treasured all these words and pondered them in her heart” (Luke 2:19).

🙏 Novena Prayer: Mary, Mother of God
Holy Mary, Mother of God, at Christmas you held in your arms the Word made flesh. Hold me and my family as you held him, and lead us to him.
I place the coming year in your hands. Obtain for us peace in our homes, peace in the world, and the grace to say “yes” to God as you did.
(Mention your intention here)
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.
Pray this prayer once each day for nine consecutive days, beginning on December 23.
9-Day Novena Schedule
Pray the novena prayer above once each day. Use this schedule to guide your meditation:
If you miss a day, simply continue. A novena is an act of love, not a legal contract. Our Lady values your faithful return above mechanical perfection.
